The exhibition’s subtitle, Deconstructed Gaze, encapsulates Jaechul JUNG’s distinctive artistic world. Moving beyond mere visible objects, JUNG’s work breaks conventional definitions, presenting a multi-layered visual experience that seeks deeper meaning and perspective. Through this, he reveals the underlying truths within the contradictions and conflicts of modern society.
Middle ground, oil on canvas, 194x130cm (120F), 2024
JUNG’s Middle Ground series of abstract paintings and his Unfamiliar Face series of lenticular works explore contradictions and dualities in different ways. In Middle Ground, he omits human forms to allow pure color and texture interactions, leaving traces of negotiation and harmony amid conflicts. This invites the viewer into an immersive exploration of layered emotions and reflections. In contrast, the Unfamiliar Face series uses lenticular techniques to deconstruct famous figures, exposing historical contradictions and encouraging viewers to transcend fixed judgments and explore multiplicity.

Current conflicts, such as those in Ukraine and Palestine, are tragic examples of issues fueled by politics, ideology, and religion. The contradictions in a world where innocent lives are sacrificed reflect urgent societal challenges. Deconstructed Gaze breaks down these contradictions, guiding viewers toward new meanings and perspectives.
Jaechul JUNG’s works provide a platform for audiences to interpret and engage freely, encouraging them to reconstruct social relationships and personal thought patterns. This leads to a profound experience of intellectual expansion, where complex layers of relationships and thought are explored.
