Rebooting is a group exhibition comprising the work of Guillermo Ros, Jack Jubb and Thom Trojanowski. The proposals of the three artists, made up of paintings and sculptures, are understood as artistic remains, testimonies of a catastrophe that we, as visitors, are unaware of. The exhibition starts from point 0, from the tabula rasa and from the need to deconstruct the works as the only way to take us back to the immediate past, to a previous state, to something we still don’t know. The gallery room becomes a space of restarting, of beginning, a space of possibilities. The calm after the storm.

The degradation, the nostalgia and the vestiges of a recent past are denoted in creating the space of the gallery, which is located in a microcosm with specific spatial-temporal coordinates, different from the real ones, creating a reality-fiction dialogue that is key to the project. We move forward and observe signs of degradation: the smoke that envelops the room, the fumes and the remains of stones that lead us to a giant rose-grower, which is devouring the architecture, eating the remains of what is left, its food. The sculpture, the work of Guillermo Ros, places violence in the foreground, the violence inherent in catastrophe, in the rune, in a post-apocalyptic world. Applied to artistic practice, the artist – like the rat – is turned into a creature focused on his own self-exploitation, through a cruel, aggressive and destructive gesture. A destruction that has led to individual and collective collapse.

Advancing in the observation of space, Jack Jubb’s works are presented as premonitions, as paintings linked to a distant conception of the environment that has become reality. The artist works from a conceptual point of view, transferring image post-production techniques to the canvas with an influence of low-resolution images. The results are works with a blurred aspect, with a certain air of strangeness. The works presented here are based on images with an origin in aquatic life, reconciling the digital process of liquidation – very much undertaken in the field of photography – with the optical qualities of water, from which it derives.

From the strangeness of Jubb’s works we move on to images that take us back to a primitive state, where nature and its mysticism create a key dialogue in the works of Thom Trojanowski. His work transports us to a state of harmony between nature and the human being. His works are the result of the artist’s experience in the natural environment, as a reminder of what is fundamental and what has been lost in the microcosm in which we find ourselves. In these works, Trojanowski shows us – with sincerity – his usual natural surroundings, the Bokrijk nature reserve. In this sense, the protagonists are the trees, the earth, the water, the fongs and the sensation of magic, mystery and emotion that is – and was – experienced in these surroundings.
