The artists who pursue light and its traces.
Light is omnipresent and available to our vision and senses. Its essence, however, has not been fully surfaced to countless artists from the dawn of time to now. In history, light has been studied with significant implications for both science and religion, but to artists, it remained more of a mystery. Light exists as an endless source of artistic inspiration – no artist can deny that it is one of the most fascinating ways to vitalize their works and convey their message.

GALLERY YEH proudly presents this exhibition in which various lights intertwine to construct an artistic world. The four artists, who have been pursuing the illusion of the most beautiful light that they found, have wonderfully captured the traces of light and reflected them in their works.

Bahk Seon Ghi vividly reveals the natural flow of wind and light in his world of sculpture. Countless transparent units reflect the surroundings, permeating the space like air and simultaneously letting the light refract on their surface. It is a truly commanding presence. In the space, light is reconstructed as the new sculptural language and exists, at the same time, as dots, lines, and three-dimensional sculptures.

To Yoon Jong Ju, light is a world that contains infinite and unknown colors between the linguistic label of hues, and her works can be said to be a journey that follows light to discover a new color. The scene of silently and subtly changing color within the refined proportion and structure somewhat resembles the scene when the sunrise is imminent just before dawn, with the sky slowly and gradually brightening.

Park Hyun Joo shows works that reconcile inner senses and natural beauty to create harmony. To her, light is the source of nature and the key for a smaller entity of humanity to understand the universe. Through the world in which light is layered in colors that resemble nature, we are invited to reflect on our inner light that exists as senses.

To Yi Hwan Kwon, it is the byproduct of light that paradoxically pronounces light’s presence – shadow. His works capture the lingering traces of lost memories and uncommunicated emotions, like the shadow that slowly disappears beyond the moment of brilliance. In his world, light is found within the darkness of the shadow.
Each of these artists has remained faithful to their unique light through both the brightest and the darkest hours of life. Following the traces of their illumination, we are led to a new landscape. Perhaps light is the most beautiful window through which we may understand our world.
