Installation View of ‘Self-sustaining order’
The self-sustaining order is a naturally occurring phenomenon that captures human nature and
follows the order of nature. Various people come together and something happens in a complex
relationship, so the phenomenon changes as a result, and people each play a new role. It can be
said that it is an order created in the relationship between people, that is, in interaction.

My work creates an order in which paint is dropped on the canvas and naturally formed in the process of paint being pushed and scraped off the canvas by Squeeze’s repeated interactions. The composition of the screen also refrains from artificial planning. The process of collecting, pushing, and dismantling paint on the canvas is repeated so that the paint can mix, overlap, and create a bond.

Laozi(老子) who believes that the order of heaven and earth arises spontaneously in the East, said
that “do” imitates nature. Here, ‘do’ means natural order. Laozi(老子) emphasized to emulate nature in governing people and conducting politics.

I graduated college about 30 years ago and that time I drew small stones and grains of sand by the
sea on canvas number 50 for several months. At first, the speed of work was slow and confusing, but
by the time it was half-finished, order began to be seen in the stones and countless grains of sand.
Perhaps I thought it was similar to the order of the universe. After completing the work, I named it
‘Nature Order’.

Self-sustaining order was created and evolving, centering on human nature. As society developed, the form of order changed according to the environment. Among human nature, altruism and cooperation created social bonds, and humans played a decisive role as successful species. Self-sustaining order cannot be prevented by any ideology or moral religion. If we try to criticize and regulate self-sustaining order as a moral or political standard, it means denying nature and denying human nature, and consequently, we will move away from creating a beautiful world. I believe the world of art is the same.
The canvas is a small universe. The particles create a trajectory while the tiny particles of paint are
pushed and scattered by the squeegee. In the process, a self-sustaining order is formed, and the
trajectories come together to form a line, compose a face, and expand a new space. The process of
work is like a trip in space to find a utopia through appearance.
