Bupkwan
Hakgojae Gallery is pleased to present works by Bupkwan (b. 1957) in his solo exhibition, ZEN2022 from March 30th (Wed) to May 1st (Sun), 2022. This exhibition presents the new paintings by Bupkwan, who has continued the practice of ‘Zen Painting’ for 30 years since his first solo exhibition in 2002. Bupkwan is a Zennist who devoted himself to the practice of Buddhism. His ‘Zen Painting’ is a form of Zen Buddhist art that portrays the Buddha’s spirit and message. Expressing the realm of the ‘mind’ within the monks’ process of practice, it is original in itself. Bupkwan’s Zen Painting intends to reveal the worldview of Zen and the spirit obtained from practice through a contemporary sense of forms. This exhibition presents a series of 40 paintings, Zen, which Bupkwan created throughout 2021 and 2022.
Bupkwan was born in 1957. He has continuously been showing his works since his first solo exhibition at Sun Art (Gangneung, Korea) in 2002.
