T-Yong Chung ‘ Contatto…’
GALLERY PALZO Daegu is to present T-Yong Chung’s first solo exhibition in Daegu, Korea from March 11th to April 9th, 2023. Artist T-Yong Chung, who has been active in Italy for over 20 years, has been greatly inspired by the cultural, iconographic, and humanistic influences projected on him in Italy for many years, as well as his personal experiences in a foreign land. The artist has been working freely while feeling a strong attraction to classical art, Arte Povera, and minimalism locally. The elements related to space and time in his work walks a tight rope between the classic beauty and spaces that the artist found easily during his 20-year residence in Italy, and the artistic conceptualism that leaves a strong mark without shape.
“I erase images to find empty space and balance. I respect the original story and seek out new possibilities,” says the artist. Through the objects selected by him, classical busts, bronze sculptures, prints, and curtain installations, he disassembles, assembles, sands, and polishes the original shape until it becomes a new ‘something’, and this object still retains its original story. It is strongly connected to his past.
This exhibition ‘Contatto‘ shows bronze sculptures, curtain installations printed with analog printmaking techniques, and flat frameworks. The curtain installation work creates the final image by overlapping the silhouettes of empty containers suggesting different empty spaces. In each shape, images of empty containers overlapping each other are overlapped at regular intervals.
