Sujeng Ga
GARAM GALLERY is pleased to announce Sujeng Ga: Pigmentations, a solo exhibition by the artist Sujeng Ga.
Installation View (1)
Everyone carries their own unique colors. Some of these colors shine naturally, while others remain hidden, sometimes even from ourselves. “Pigmentations” begins with an effort to see, to recognize, and to confront these internal hues.
Installation View (2)
The artist reinterprets faces—those of film characters, fellow artists, and anonymous individuals encountered in daily life—infusing them with personal emotions and memories. These are familiar faces, yet they evoke unfamiliar feelings. Through bold, expressive brushstrokes and a vibrant palette, the portraits transcend realism, drawing the viewer into an introspective encounter.
Woman with Her Hand on Her Head, 116.8 × 91 (cm), oil on canvas, 2025
Each painting is a mosaic of colors—clashing, harmonizing, layering—coming together to form a single impression. These vivid expressions stir something quietly powerful: the realization that within a stranger’s face, we may recognize a part of ourselves. Perhaps that is why these faces feel both distant and deeply intimate.
Man Resting on His Right Arm, 80.0 × 116.8 (cm), oil on canvas, 2023
This exhibition invites viewers to rediscover their own emotions, memories, and long-forgotten impressions. It is a moment of silent discovery, where one color, one gaze, one brushstroke might awaken another version of the self that has long been dormant.
Man Holding a Brush, 130.3 × 97.0 (cm), oil on canvas, 2025
More than mere portraits, these works become mirrors—reflecting the invisible, the emotional, the deeply human. Through them, we are asked not just to look at others, but to see ourselves anew.
