Program | Empty Fields by Kat Austen
Location | 1F Swing Space (located between Hall A & B)
Time | September 4th, 14:00 PM / September 7th, 15:00 PM
Please don’t be surprised! When you meet the cybernetic lady on the road between the gallery booths at Kiaf SEOUL 2024!
2pm on 4th September and 3pm on the 7th, Kat Austen will perform Empty Fields, a site-specific performance, responding to the ecological theme. The soundscape will be constructed by sonically overlaying field recordings from Seoul, Gwangju, and Jeju’s Mt. Halla along with noises from the Kiaf exhibition halls. This will underscore the significance of the interconnectedness of our ecosystem. Kat will be transformed into a hybrid cybernetic lifeform during this exhibition, traversing both physical and virtual environments. By interaction with the audience during this performance, Kat invites you to investigate the ecosystem’s evolution and interconnectedness together with her.
Kat Austen, Empty Fields, Sound+Movement Performance, 15 min, 2024
Through collaborations with wearable technology and fashion designers, Kat Austen moves between spaces that are usually empty and unused in the exhibition hall, sharing environmental data collected by the artist through interaction with the audience and exposing the changes that occur in between as real-time sound. The performance also works with AI interpretations of the soundscape.
