맥화랑은 2007년 부산 해운대에 개관한 현대미술 기획 전문 갤러리다. 국내외 활발한 활동을 하는 중견, 원로작가의 초대전과 독창적이고 성장 가능성을 잠재한 신진, 청년 작가들을 발굴하여 지속적인 지원을 하고 있으며, 국내는 물론 해외 시장에 소개하는데 주력하고 있다. 다양한 장르의 참신한 기획 전시를 통해 미술 애호가들에게 동시대 미술시장의 흐름을 정확하게 전달함과 동시에 대중과 함께 호흡할 수 있는 기회를 확대하고 있다. 2019년 바다가 보이는 곳으로 이전한 맥화랑은 좀 더 편안하고 안락한 공간에서 관람객들에게 휴식과 전시 관람을 동시에 제공한다.

맥화랑은 이번 Kiaf SEOUL에서 청년 작가부터 원로 작가까지 8인의 작업을 통해 세대와 매체를 아우르는 한국 현대미술의 다양한 흐름을 선보이고자 한다. 특히 부산을 기반으로 반세기 넘게 회화, 조각, 오브제, 설치를 넘나들며 독자적 예술 세계를 구축해 온 김정명(b.1945-)을 외벽 공간에 배치하여 독립적으로 조명한다. 김정명 작가는 평생을 예술에 바쳐 작업해 오며, 누구와도 같지 않은 자신만의 형식과 언어를 찾기 위해 부단히 탐구해 온 작가다. 그의 작업에는 예술사라는 수직의 시간과 동시대라는 수평의 감각이 만나는 지점을 끊임없이 사유해 온 태도가 깊이 배어 있다. 이번에 선보이는 최근작 <예술인자>와 <그들에게 경의를> 시리즈는 예술사의 계보 속에서 자신의 위치를 다시 성찰하고, 파편과 흔적에서 새롭게 태어나는 예술의 가능성을 탐색한다. 맥화랑은 김정명 작가 재조명을 통해 지역에서 축적된 예술적 DNA가 지역성에 머물지 않고 동시대 글로벌 미술씬에서도 유효한 울림을 지니며, 다음 세대로 계승되고 확장될 수 있는 가능성을 제안하고자 한다.


Opened in 2007 in Haeundae, Busan, GALLERY MAC is an art gallery specializing in contemporary art. GALLERY MAC hosts invitational exhibitions of middle-aged and senior artists who are active both at home and abroad. We are also continuously supporting new and young artists with originality and potential of growth, and focusing on introducing them to domestic and foreign markets. GALLERY MAC works hard to accurately convey the trend of the contemporary art market to art lovers through innovative exhibitions of various genres, while expanding opportunities to interact with the public. GALLERY MAC moved to a place overlooking the sea in 2019 and provides visitors with an opportunity to relax and view art works in a more comfortable and cozy environment.

GALLERY MAC presents works by eight artists, from emerging to senior figures, offering a broad view of Korean contemporary art across generations and media. A key highlight is Jungmyung Kim (b. 1945-), a Busan-based senior artist who has built a singular practice over more than half a century across painting, sculpture, objects, and installation. Presented independently along the exterior wall, Kim’s recent series and reflect his lifelong pursuit of a distinctive artistic language and his inquiry into where art history meets the contemporary. Through this presentation, GALLERY MAC suggests that artistic DNA rooted in a local context can resonate globally and be carried forward by future generations.
