미술과 나누는 무언(無言)의 대화: 시감(視感)이 주는 유대감

팬데믹으로 인해 사회적 교류가 제한되자 사람들은 원치 않게 많은 시간을 혼자 보내야 했다. 하지만 남들과 떨어져 혼자 작업하는 것은 작가들에게는 자연스러운 일상으로 ‘홀로 있기’는 창작 과정의 불가피한 친구이다.

작품을 만드는 동안 작가는 스쳐가는 많은 무언(無言)의 대화와 생각을 한다. 작품은 작가의 노력과 능력이 응축된 결과물이며, 그 작품 안에는 작가가 했던 미술과의 대화가 담겨 있다.

미술 작품과의 유대감은 어디에서 나올까? 작품의 시각적 특징은 왜 중요한가? 이러한 질문에 대해 케이트 림의 진행을 통해 아티스트 김택상, 프레 일겐, 린 스턴, 하젬 타하 후세인의 생각을 직접 들어보며 코로나로 피곤해진 삶을 재충전하는 시간을 갖는다.

The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed restrictions on social life in many parts of the world, where people had to stay in involuntarily solitude. However, ‘being alone’ in art-making is an ineluctable and regular routine for many artists.

The artists engage in various wordless dialogues and thoughts while creating their works. The works are the result of their effort and abilities, encompassing the conversation they had with the art.

Where does the bond with a work of art come from? Why is the visual quality important? Through the talk by moderator Kate Lim, artist Kim Taek Sang, Frè Ilgen, Lynn Stern, and Hazem Taha Hussein, we will have a chance to listen to their thoughts and recharge from this exhausting pandemic.
