Jochen PANKRATH | Viewing modern society through philosophical lens

Bode Galerie

Jochen PANKRATH

Painting is a profound expression of thought for Jochen PANKRATH. His artwork delves into the intricacies of contemporary society.

One of his remarkable creations is “Abstract Philosophers,” a captivating series of portraits that depict the faces of philosophers set against vibrant and imaginative backgrounds. One notable artwork is “The Observation”, a captivating portrait made up of tiles that beautifully captures the essence of artificial intelligence (AI) and networks. Through his paintings, he skillfully captures the evolving world by juxtaposing the accumulated wisdom of humanity with the rapid advancements of AI.

He draws inspiration from art history to give a fresh and modern twist to traditional themes like figures, portraits, and landscapes. He elaborates, “I do not confine myself to any particular discipline, instead, I craft pieces by blending different genres and employing diverse techniques.”

He pursues reflections on who we are and where we are heading. Observers contemplate concrete thoughts when they see abstract elements in his works, akin to a philosophical process. “Nevertheless, the essence is the joy of seeing the painting. It’s about the pleasure of seeing.  However, I also aim to inspire individuals to contemplate our identity, the potential changes we may undergo in the next 5-10 years, the transformative power of emerging technologies, and the potential risks they may entail. “

He expressed, “My objective is to continually amaze myself through my creative endeavors.” With a focus on creating enduring masterpieces, the artist strives to leave a lasting impact through his work. He explores intricate modern themes using the traditional medium of painting. Pankrath expresses a desire to establish a lasting legacy in the realm of art, acknowledging the considerable effort required to achieve such a feat. However, the artist laments the growing challenges of securing a spot in prestigious collections or museums. “Nevertheless, I firmly believe that the essence of humanity can be captured through the art of painting.”

“Considering the context is essential when portraying something. Imagination is essential when engaging both the mind and the hand. Embracing curiosity and awareness is a fundamental aspect of our human nature, as it fuels our creativity. Is it possible for machines to possess true creativity?”
