Wonderland 53X53cm, Acrylic on wood, 2024, Lavender Frame
Within her work, WONDERLAND, lies a narrative of hope and dreams as sweet as candy—evident in the sparkling eyes of a glittering girl, the playful expressions of curious monster friends, and the cuddly presence of a bear from head to toe. At the heart of Sara Lee’s utopia, WONDERLAND, is the essence of childlike innocence. This is a dream world where everyone is happy and filled with wonder, a space in which the artist’s pure heart is fully expressed. The girl in the piece invites us into this utopia, evoking nostalgia for our forgotten childhoods and prompting reflection on our inner child.

For her creative process, the artist crafts a special canvas by repeatedly applying poly on wood instead of using traditional canvas. She mixes various materials—including construction elements—applies the blend more than ten times, and builds dense layers through repeated sanding. Much like applying thin layers of acrylic paint and then repeatedly scraping away white lines with a sharp blade, she completes her work through a meticulous process of repetition.

In this unique art world where literary narrative and neo-pop converge, you are invited to embark on a journey that explores the healing of the heart and the profound depths of human emotion. For those wishing to momentarily return to a world of innocence amid the clamor of everyday life, Artist Sara Lee’s Welcome to Wonderland exhibition at Galerie GAIA promises to deliver dreams, hope, and boundless imagination.
