The ‘Cinematic’ series is a new concept that Yamaguchi started in 2023. Since 2020, he has been creating paintings based on the theme of ‘SELFY,’ depicting selfies as a contemporary illusionistic self-portrait. In this ‘Cinematic’ series, he delves into the personal yet cinematic worldview that unfolds through smartphones. While cinematic images originally serve symbolic roles within popular values, Yamaguchi captures how personal daily life is being transformed into a cinematic experience due to the advancement of smartphones and social media. In this series, he continues to use the stencils and airbrush techniques he has employed since the early stages, evolving his artistic expression by depicting sunset scenes and vibrant nightscapes through gradients. His unique body of work, combining both popularity and artistic depth, resonates deeply with audiences in Japan, Korea, and beyond, garnering widespread support from enthusiasts.
