Park Hyesoo (b. 1974) is a visual artist whose multidisciplinary, participatory practice is rooted in sculpture and installation. Since being selected for the 10th Kumho Young Artist program at Kumho Museum of Art in 2010, she has developed a distinctive artistic practice, earning the Grand Prize at the 2014 SONGEUN Art Award and being shortlisted for the 2019 Korea Artist Prize at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.

This exhibition marks Park’s twelfth solo exhibition and brings her back to Kumho Museum of Art sixteen years after the museum first recognized her potential as an emerging artist, offering a timely opportunity to revisit her practice at a significant stage in her artistic career.

Throughout her career, Park has explored the relationship between the individual and society by transforming personal stories and broader social structures into shared experiences that invite audience participation. While Park’s practice unfolds through an expanding series of interconnected questions, it remains rooted in the overlooked stories that lie beneath the surface of everyday life. Bringing together sculpture, video, installation, performance and publication, this exhibition traces the trajectory of Park’s inquiry from her earliest works to the present, placing participation at the center of the viewing experience.

In particular, the exhibition presents Our Unknown Country (2019-present), the fourth chapter of her long-running Project Dialogue, initiated in the early 2000s. Through this series, Park examines the Korean notion of “Uri (we)”—a collective identity—and the ways individual subjectivities are formed within it through the lens of truth.

Through this exhibition, Kumho Museum of Art invites visitors to consider the question that Park poses: Who is your “we”? This question asks us to reconsider what we have chosen to believe, what we have remained silent about in the name of collective solidarity and survival, and how truth comes to be valued in that process. The exhibition leaves these questions open, encouraging visitors to carry them beyond the gallery and into their everyday lives.
