Artist Zinna Yoo, who majored in metal crafts, and artist Molly Kim, who majored in clothing and textiles, unfold their own unique world of work within the medium of painting based on the formative senses accumulated in their respective majors. Although they started from different backgrounds, the two artists present a fresh perspective by delicately capturing symbols and memories, ideal landscapes and inner emotions through painting.
The exhibition title Beyond the Symbols is about facing the story and emotions contained beyond simply discovering the hidden symbols in the work.

Artist Molly Kim uses her childhood experience of falling deeply into a painting that she accidentally encountered in an unfamiliar space abroad as a starting point for her work. The memory remains inside the artist over time, and now leads to the hope that someone else will naturally permeate the painting through her work.

Various symbols are hidden throughout the screen in hopes that those who face the work will feel a warm warmth and sympathize with sometimes unfamiliar but familiar emotions.

Molly Kim’s work shows a painting world that stands out with rich imagination and free creativity. Rather than presenting the correct answer, the symbols on the screen create new meanings according to the experiences and emotions of the viewers, and evoke their memories and imaginations. In this respect, her work can be said to be a work that captures the joy and imagination of pure painting.

Artist Zinna Yoo, who majored in metal crafts, is familiar with realizing three-dimensional spaces based on solid structures. Such formative senses are naturally revealed in painting work. The landscape contains a calm composition and peaceful atmosphere reminiscent of oriental paintings, and the delicate texture of each leaf in three dimensions is felt as unique characteristics of the artist who majored in crafts.

The reality and the ideal are expressed through symbolic natural elements on the screen, and the three-dimensional elements added on the flat screen give depth and vitality to the work. The scenery in the work is reinterpreted as a space that evokes the ideal while being based on real nature.

The artist embodies the ideal landscape he pursues on the screen, and through this, she intends to convey peace and comfort to the viewers. Nature, color, and three-dimensional expression are in harmony to provide a calm space to the viewers.
