Dreaming Wanderer : The Time In Between

Jaesun KIM

Installation View (1)

Human life is a continuous journey of movement. At times we walk toward a clear destination; at other moments we pause, hesitate, or lose our direction before setting out again on a new path.

For many years, Kim Jae Sun has explored this movement of human existence and the flow of time through her series Dreaming Wanderer. The countless footprints that appear across the surface of her works are not merely formal elements, but symbolic traces of human life—echoes of memory, experience, and the passage of time.

The exhibition Dreaming Wanderer : The Time In Between presents a transitional moment within this ongoing journey. Through textured surfaces and the accumulation of repeated marks, the artist visualizes the flow of time and the traces left behind by movement.

Installation View (4)

The surfaces of the works resemble a terrain shaped over time, or a path upon which many footsteps have quietly passed. The footprints within the compositions do not move toward a single direction.

Instead, they overlap, diverge, and intersect across the surface. These shifting traces metaphorically reflect the human condition—our continual process of choosing, wandering, hesitating, and moving forward through life.

At the same time, these marks evoke not only an individual journey but also the collective accumulation of countless lived experiences within time.Within the broader trajectory of the Dreaming Wanderer series, this exhibition represents a moment of transition.

While continuing the visual language of footprints and traces developed in earlier works, Kim Jae Sun expands the spatial rhythm and visual atmosphere of the surface, suggesting the possibility of a new direction emerging from within the continuity of her practice.

“The Time In Between” refers to a moment that exists between past and future, between stillness and movement. The footprints scattered across Kim Jae Sun’s canvases appear like traces on an unfinished path, quietly inviting viewers to reflect upon their own passage through time.Ultimately, the exhibition poses a simple yet profound question:Where are our footsteps leading us now?
