Ahra Kim | 2025 Kiaf HIGHLIGHTS Semi-Finalists

Ahra Kim

Ahra Kim, Kimreeaa Gallery

Q1. Since being selected as a semi-finalist for Kiaf HIGHLIGHTS, what has changed the most in your practice?

Since being selected as a semi-finalist, I have been busy preparing for my solo exhibition. Earlier this year, I showcased my solo exhibition at Kimreeaa Gallery. I have been consistently working while reflecting on both new and previous works. If there has been any change since winning the award, I feel grateful for the requests for interviews from various magazines and the interest shown in diverse fields.

Q2. Are there any recent exhibitions, projects, or collaborations you would like to highlight?

In my first solo exhibition at Kimreeaa Gallery, titled 《Even a Single Day is Long, If You Try to Understand》, I presented a series of new works. By introducing ink into my previous painting practice on linen, I attempted to capture the density of darkness within the frame through shade. This exhibition made me to explore the properties of materials and reflect my attitude as an artist.

Q3. Do you have any upcoming international exhibitions, fairs, or projects planned?

For the remaining year, I plan to focus on preparing for domestic exhibitions and fairs. Having just wrapped up my solo exhibition, I believe it is necessary to take time to reflect on my works I will create in the future and those I have previously made.

Q4. Are there any goals or projects you are currently preparing for or aspiring to in your artistic practice?

My ongoing goal is to create work gradually and with patience. While the time spent so far is also important, I believe that the long time ahead is even more crucial, which is why I aim to practice good works.

Q5. Has being selected as a Kiaf HIGHLIGHTS semi-finalist led to any positive changes in your practice?

As it is an international art fair, the opportunity to present my work to both domestic and overseas audiences has been significantly meaningful. Moreover, I have received more support than ever, which will greatly engage me in continuing my work in the future.
