Today, biennales function not merely as international exhibitions that present developments in contemporary art, but also as platforms that reflect changing social and cultural environments and propose new artistic perspectives. In this process, the curator’s role extends beyond selecting artworks and organizing exhibitions to identifying the critical questions of our time and developing them through diverse forms of practice.
This session examines how curatorial perspectives are formed and articulated within the framework of the biennale. Drawing on experiences from a range of biennale contexts, the speakers will discuss how different regional and institutional environments shape the direction of exhibitions and influence the role of the curator.
Through this discussion, the session considers how contemporary biennales connect art and society, while reflecting on the significance of the curatorial practices that take place within them.
