Seo Hyeon Gyu’s work moves toward an “artificial ecosystem” created by the entanglement of cold industrial materials—bolts, nuts, and stainless steel mirrors. Through the repetitive assembly of mechanical components, the artist transforms inorganic metal into tree-like structures that appear to breathe like living organisms. This exhibition, Geometric Symbiosis : Connection, poses philosophical questions about the new forms of vitality emerging within the complex networks and technological systems of contemporary society.

In Seo’s practice, “connection” serves as both the fundamental sculptural principle and a core metaphor. The frameworks, composed of countless fasteners and wires, project a cross-section of modern relationships where individual components exist independently yet rely on one another to constitute a larger whole. This structural assembly is not a fixed form, but functions as a dynamic network that continuously reflects the movements of viewers and the surrounding environment. The space and figures mirrored on the surfaces become part of the work, creating a landscape of “geometric symbiosis” that dissolves the boundaries between reality and illusion.

This sculptural investigation extends into a deeper emotional resonance through the paintings displayed on the gallery walls. As suggested by the Sensitivity series or works such as Don’t Cry and Consolation, the rough, honest brushstrokes and vivid color fields on canvas expose the raw, sensitive nerve endings of the human psyche and the thirst for communication. While the sculptures speak of structural vitality through the circulatory systems of cold metal and “digital fruits,” the paintings visualize the vulnerability of relationships and the possibilities for healing through the human faces, tears, and mutual gazes hidden behind those structures.

Through this exhibition, Seo Hyeon Gyu invites reflection on how deeply technological infrastructure is interwoven with human life. The geometric order of the sculptures and the psychological panorama of the paintings converge toward the same theme through different media. In this space where machine and human, analog and digital, and cold materiality and warm emotion intersect, the two realms mirror and collide with each other to complete a true “symbiosis.” This exhibition offers a unique poetic language on the future of relationships and ecosystems, drawing the viewer into the artist’s vision.
